Funeral Services celebrated for newly departed and ever-memorable Archbishop Nikon

Clergy and faithful of the Albanian Archdiocese and the Diocese of New England, and many beyond these dioceses, gathered around His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon and members of the Holy Synod:  Archbishop Nathaniel, Archbishop Benjamin, Archbishop Michael, Archbishop Alexander, Bishop Paul, and Bishop John of Worcester, and New England, Auxilliary Bishop of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America, to celebrate funeral services for the newly departed and ever-memorable Archbishop Nikon.  You can see the obituary posted on the OCA website here.  Mitred Archpriest Michael Westerberg, and Archpriest Steven Voytovich attended services from Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church.

Services were held at St. George Albanian Cathedral on Wednesday, (Trisagion for the Departed, on Sept. 4), and Holy Trinity Cathedral, (Funeral on Sept. 5, Divine Liturgy with Trisagion for the Departed on Sept. 6) both in Boston.  This photo was taken at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Boston.

Archpriest Robert Arida, Cathedral Dean, and Arhcbishop Michael preached at the funeral service, combining personal remembrances in addition to extolling his ministry as priest and hieararch; Metropolitan Tikhon preached at the Divine Liturgy, and our OCA Chancellor, Archpriest Alexander Rentel, read many letters of condolences from churches around the world.  Bishop John shared a letter from Metropolitan Joseph, leader of the Antiochian Archdiocese, and more personally his friendship with Archbishop Nikon as fellow New England hierarchs.  At the end of the Divine Liturgy a Trisagion for the Departed was celebrated, and gathered clergy participated in carrying the casket to the hearse.  Archbishop Nikon is to be buried in MIchigan, next to his wife, Mat. Sarah, who pre-deceased him.

May Archbishop Nikon's memory be eternal!
