In Memoriam: Sylvia Pelikan: Updated

Sylvia Pelikan fell asleep in the Lord early this morning.  She passed peacefully with her son Michael by her side.

Sylvia was the wife of Yaroslav Pelikan, of blessed memory, members of Holy Transfiguration Church, and also strong supporters of St. Vladimir's Seminary after the Pelikan's, quoting Yaroslav's words, "returned to the Orthodox Faith, in 1998.  He served on their Board of Trustees in multiple capacities as well as continuing his teaching and writing in Church History that was known around the world.  You can view St. Vladimir's write-up of Yaroslav's memorial at the link here.  He reposed in the Lord on May 13, 2006.

Sylvia most recently lived  in an apartment at Whitney Center where she was an active community member.  She loved and often spoke of her children and extended family, remembered her husband likewise with love, and enjoyed the company of her cat who she cared for in her unit.  You can access her obituary here.

Services for Sylvia are as follows, at Holy Transfiguration Church, with arrangements made by Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home:

   Calling Hours at Holy Transfiguration Church, Friday, August 30th, from 4-8pm, with Panikhida celebrated at 7:00pm.

   Additional calling hour from 9-10am on Saturday, August 31, with Funeral Service for a Layperson beginning at 10:00am.  Burial at Grove Street Cemetery.

May God grant eternal rest to the newly departed servant of God Sylvia.  May her memory be eternal.
