The priest then covers the penitent's head with his epitrachelion (stole) and pronounces the prayer of absolution.

The 4th-century Bishop of Trimythous in Cyprus, known for his simplicity and miraculous powers. Celebrated on December 12th, Spyridon was a shepherd who became a bishop and attended the First Ecumenical Council. His relics remain incorrupt and are venerated especially in Greece.
